Fox and Wilkinson Named David B. Fawcett Pro Bono Winners

Dickie McCamey presented the firm’s David B. Fawcett Pro Bono Award to David C. Fox and Alexander Y. Wilkinson during a ceremony at the Jeffrey T. Wiley Conference Center at the firm’s Pittsburgh headquarters.

The award is presented annually to firm associates who give their time to help those in need—a commitment that was a hallmark of the award’s namesake, David B. Fawcett.

“If we are lucky enough to have talent, experience, knowledge, and time, it is expected that we use these to prop up our community and benefit others. That is the spirit of pro bono work here at Dickie McCamey,” said Darious D. Singleton, Vice Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, before introducing this year’s honorees. “We use the talents that we were blessed with, the knowledge we worked hard for, and the experience that we gained to help those who are most vulnerable in our community.”

“Alex Wilkinson has made an incredible impact on our pro bono program participating in all of our programs including the NLSA/PFA program, Sharpsburg Clinic, Best Interests program, as well as the Federal Court Pro Bono program,” said shareholder William D. Clifford. “The results that Alex has achieved for our clients in need have been life-changing.”

Mr. Wilkinson joined Dickie McCamey in 2024 as an associate. He concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, civil litigation, commercial litigation, criminal defense, and environmental law, with a particular emphasis on tort defense.

“It’s an honor to be recognized, and I thank everyone for coming today. I’m very humbled and thankful to the firm for giving me the opportunity to do this work. I think it’s why a lot of us decided to become lawyers in the first place,” Mr. Wilkinson said. “I think if you have an opportunity to help someone out, even just a little bit, take a little bit of load off of their shoulders, it’s a great feeling that you get and you can see it in other people. I think that’s one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as an attorney.”

“David Fox has been an important contributor to our pro bono program for several years, including our Best Interests program. Most recently, David stepped up into the leadership role of the NLSA/Landlord Tenant Mediation program,” Clifford explained. “Without David’s commitment to this program, we would not be able to continue it.”

Mr. Fox joined the firm in 2018 and is a principal at Dickie McCamey, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of energy law, mineral law, and real estate, with a particular emphasis on oil and gas.

“I just wanted to say I’m very humbled, and I feel like there’s a lot of other people here who are very deserving as well, so I appreciate being recognized,” Mr. Fox said. “I just wanted to reiterate through what some of the other speakers said as well that pro bono is a very important thing in our day-to-day lives. I think it’s important to give back to those who need assistance that can’t pay for legal assistance.”

Judy Hale, director of pro bono at the Pennsylvania Bar Association and former pro bono manager at Neighborhood Legal Services, was one of the featured speakers at the event.

Mr. Fawcett was dedicated to supporting the firm’s lawyers in their efforts to provide free and meaningful legal services to indigent civil litigants, including the working poor. In honor of his many charitable efforts, Dickie McCamey also recognizes the many members of its staff who faithfully and generously contribute to supporting those in need.

Award criteria include recommendations from program coordinators, results achieved, and the ability to fulfill pro bono responsibilities while meeting all other responsibilities to the firm.
