Profile & Honors

Maria V. Hanley is an associate of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. She concentrates her practice in the area of civil litigation, with a particular emphasis in railroad litigation and commercial litigation, in both state and federal courts.

As a member of the firm’s Railroad Law, Litigation and Regulatory Counsel Group, Ms. Hanley regularly represents Class I and Short Line railroads in Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) and state tort claim litigation. Additionally, Ms. Hanley is a member of the firm’s Commercial Law and Litigation Group. In her commercial litigation practice, she focuses on business torts and contractual disputes. Ms. Hanley also handles matters in the areas of school district defense, product liability law, and corporate services.

Prior to joining the firm as a lawyer, Ms. Hanley worked as a law clerk and summer associate at Dickie McCamey. While in law school, she was a teaching assistant in the Legal Research and Writing Department at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.

Ms. Hanley is an active member of the firm’s Associates Committee and Compliance Committee.

Ms. Hanley has been trained by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA).

Representative Matters

  • Ms. Hanley successfully defended a Pennsylvania school district as a second chair in a 3-week trial in which the plaintiff sued the school district, a Pennsylvania athletic association, and a Pennsylvania athletic league over a concussion sustained in a football practice 13 years prior to the trial. Plaintiff claimed that he has Traumatic Encephalopathy Syndrome (TES) and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The jury returned a verdict for all of the defendants after 2 hours of deliberation.
