John R. Seeds is a principal of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. He concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate and energy-related litigation, with a particular emphasis in oil and gas. Mr. Seeds advises exploration and production clients concerning title matters and leasehold acquisition, storage field acquisition, division order title, and curative matters for acreage positions in the Marcellus, Utica, and New Albany shale plays. He routinely advises operators regarding Ohio’s Dormant Mineral Act, Marketable Title Act, and other statutory regimes impacting oil and gas development in the Utica. Additionally, Mr. Seeds represents several operators in Ohio state and federal courts defending leasehold interests in matters involving mortgage foreclosure, state and federal tax lien foreclosure, lease forfeiture, pipeline easement condemnation, and contractual disputes with landowners. His litigation experience covers both Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Seeds served as a senior counsel in the Pittsburgh office of a national law firm specializing in oil and gas title and energy-related litigation. He has also practiced before Pennsylvania state and federal courts in matters involving construction defect claims, wrongful death, transportation, premises liability, and commercial contract disputes. His prior practice with a Cleveland-based law firm included matters involving unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets, contract disputes and business torts, construction litigation and lien disputes, and toxic tort defense.

Before beginning his civilian career, Mr. Seeds served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer and judge advocate, defending service members charged with misdemeanor and felony level offenses under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California.
