DMC Assists Beverly’s Birthdays to Help Families in Need

Every child deserves a happy birthday.

That message is emblazoned on the mobile Birthday Boutique, a party on wheels operated by Beverly’s Birthdays that delivers birthday cheer to area children.

Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, a national, full-service law firm based in Pittsburgh, recently participated in a fundraising effort to benefit Beverly’s Birthdays. Several employees spent a portion of a Saturday afternoon helping to organize clothing and toy donations for future birthday experiences.

Beverly’s Birthdays is a Pittsburgh-based non-profit organization founded by Megs Yunn in 2012, after she met a 16-year-old girl who had never had her own birthday party. Inspired by the young girl’s story, Ms. Yunn set out on a mission to start an organization that provides birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness and families in need and, since its inception, Beverly’s Birthdays has created over 30,000 birthday experiences.

Beverly’s Birthdays partners with more than 68 social service agencies, including homeless shelters, transitional housing programs, domestic violence shelters, group homes, and residential treatment facilities. In the Greater Pittsburgh area, the non-profit works with 73 schools, 27 Family Support Centers, and all five regional Allegheny County CYF offices to help spread “birthday cheer” to those in need.

In addition to hosting birthday celebrations that include a Birthday Cheer Bin filled with gender and age appropriate gifts, Beverly’s Birthdays also partners with agencies to provide group baby showers for mothers-to-be and partners with The Education Partnership to provide teachers in low-income schools with Classroom Cheer Kits containing everything teachers would need to recognize their students’ birthdays.
