Dickie McCamey Helps Clients Expunge Misdemeanor Conviction Records

Many Pennsylvanians have missed opportunities or have been held back because of mistakes in their past. Until recently, the only way to clear misdemeanor convictions from an individual’s criminal record was through the quagmire of applying for a Pardon by the Governor.

On February 16, 2016, Governor Wolf signed Act 5 of 2016 amending Pennsylvania’s Criminal History Record Information Act, which allows for the sealing of arrest and conviction records for most misdemeanors, provided that at least 10 years has passed since the conviction and the individual has stayed out of trouble.

This new law shields misdemeanor convictions from employers’ background checks, school admissions, or loan applications, with the intent of opening more doors to those trying to build better lives for themselves.

In order to seal a criminal record, the applicant is required to prepare and present a petition to a judge. Dickie McCamey’s Criminal Defense Group has the experience to help navigate this process quickly and affordably.

The new Criminal History Record Information Act takes effect on November 12, 2016.
