Nothing in life is guaranteed, except …

  1. Life is unpredictable – Who would have thought that we would be living with a worldwide pandemic?
  2. Death – It’s inevitable, with or without COVID-19.
  3. Taxes – Pennsylvania is one of six states that collects an inheritance tax.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, more individuals are starting to think about estate planning, which includes wills, durable power of attorney, and advance directive/living will documents.

At a minimum, every adult needs these three documents. Many people have turned to online tools to create them, but how will they know if these online documents meet all of the legal requirements in Pennsylvania? Attorneys understand the subtleties of the law and how things need to be written to ensure proper gifting and agent designations.

I can assist you remotely with the process, by phone and via the internet. Document signing must be in person, before a notary and with witnesses; however, these requirements should not prevent you from taking the necessary steps to get the process started. If you are interested in getting your estate plans in order, call me at 412-392-5642 or send me an email at rmaziarz@dmclaw.com.
