Samuel R. Grego is a principal of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. and serves as Chair of the firm’s Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy Practice Group. Mr. Grego is also the coordinator of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee.
His practice is concentrated in the areas of bankruptcy, creditors' rights, collections, and commercial transactions. He has extensive experience in complex commercial and corporate Chapter 11 reorganizations as well as in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases. He has represented secured and unsecured creditors and debtors in all aspects of reorganization cases including initial emergency issues which arise upon the commencement of a case, claims filing and administration, negotiations with committees, executory contacts and leases, plan and disclosure statement formulation, negotiation, and enforcement. He has also litigated numerous types of cases in bankruptcy courts including relief from stay matters, claim disputes, valuation of secured claims, preferences and fraudulent conveyances, and dischargeability issues.
Mr. Grego's experience includes the following:
- Represented the unsecured creditors committee in the Chapter 11 case of the nation's leading light gauge conversion mill for flat rolled stainless steel and high performance alloys;
- Represented a large national shopping center developer, which was the largest landlord creditor of a regional retailer of pre-recorded music and related merchandise during its extensive Chapter 11 reorganization;
- Represented a large regional health care insurer and other health care industry members as creditors in various complex commercial reorganizations and liquidations;
- Represented various creditors in large steel industry bankruptcies; and
- Represented and assisted mid-sized businesses in successfully reorganizing their operations in numerous industries, including health care, metal lithographing, retail hardware and road construction.
Mr. Grego is a frequent lecturer on and has written materials for seminars and other publications on creditors’ rights in bankruptcy and the Uniform Commercial Code. Most recently, he authored a chapter entitled, “Assisting Clients from the Start Through the End of a Bankruptcy Case,” which provides practical guidance to would-be clients considering a Chapter 11 reorganization filing. This chapter appeared in an “Inside the Minds” publication of Aspatore Books entitled, Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and Restructuring Strategy.
In addition, Mr. Grego is active in Carnegie Mellon University alumni activities and in the programs of Neighborhood Legal Services. He also serves as a legal advisor to homeowners’ associations and school organizations in the Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania area. Mr. Grego currently serves on the Indiana Township Zoning Hearing Board.
Mr. Grego is a member of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the Courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, as well as other leading bankruptcy courts. He is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and serves as Vice President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Turnaround Management Association.
Mr. Grego graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1978 with a B.S. in Social Science and Administration and Management Science. He received his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1981. |
