Joseph S.D. Christof, II is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. He is Co-chair of the firm’s Commercial Law and Litigation Practice Group and Chair of the Environmental Law and Professional Liability Defense Groups. Mr. Christof has handled matters in the areas of commercial litigation, insurance defense, professional liability, product liability, toxic tort, environmental, intellectual property, construction litigation, and securities litigation.
Many of the matters he handles in the area of commercial litigation include breach of contract, business interruption, trade dress and trademark infringements, antitrust, and directors and officers (D&O) liability issues. His professional negligence practice includes the representation of lawyers, architects, engineers, accountants, insurance agents, physicians, nursing homes, stockbrokers, and financial advisors. In the area of toxic tort, Mr. Christof has dealt with cases involving silicosis, chemicals, hard metals, welding rods, and asbestos. The insurance defense portion of his practice has him representing both large and mid-size companies in the restaurant, construction, energy, bottling and drug industry, including construction accidents, product liability, premises issues, vehicle accidents as well as other general claims in the liability area.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Christof served as a law clerk to Herbert Sorg, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Christof has lectured on various topics relevant to the field of civil litigation including professional negligence; toxic torts; insurance coverage for trademark, trade dress, and copyright infringement claims; and a variety of issues relating to commercial litigation.
Mr. Christof is a member of the bars in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio, is admitted to practice in those three states, and actively practices there in State and Federal Court. He is admitted to practice before Appellate Courts and Federal Courts in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and Wisconsin. He is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and Pennsylvania Defense Institute. In addition, Mr. Christof has been active in his church and various local organizations including Quaker Valley Schools, the Sewickley YMCA, and the Edgeworth/Leetsdale Municipal Authority.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and has been named in The Best Lawyers in America® in the field of commercial litigation as well as in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® in the field of personal injury defense.
Mr. Christof graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1970 with a B.A. He received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1974. |
